Commonly Asked Questions about Clinical Hypnotherapy

We will start by reviewing where we are and the goals for this session.

Then I will say some words that will lead you into the hypnotic state, that state of deep physical relaxation and focused alertness in which we can access the open-mindedness and problem-solving capabilities of the subconscious mind.

Once in the hypnotic state, I will use well-founded protocols that involve imagery and thoughtfully-crafted suggestions to support the goals for the session.

Then I will guide you to emerge from the hypnotic state, and you will leave the session feeling alert, refreshed, and able to proceed confidently with the rest of your day.

The consultation session is typically 60 to 90 minutes.

The intervention sessions are typically about one hour, but may sometimes be a bit longer or a bit shorter depending on the goals of that particular session.

Although clients may start to feel some benefits from clinical hypnotherapy after one or two sessions, the number of sessions to achieve particular goals will vary with each individual, depending on the issues at hand and the complexity of the situation. At the time of our consultation interview, I will let you know how many sessions I estimate will be needed to achieve your goals. In clinical hypnotherapy, we are using the benefits of the hypnotic state to work on achieving goals (new ways of feeling, new ways of thinking) that are defined by you, with the clinical hypnotherapist acting as facilitator. The client is able to disregard or ignore any suggestions that do not support their goals or their highest good.

Most insurance providers do not typically cover clinical hypnotherapy at this time. To determine coverage under an extended health care plan, it is best to contact your insurance provider directly and inquire about coverage for hypnotherapy or psychotherapy services and if the provider has any specific requirements regarding the practitioner’s credentials.
